like every year, people are crying already about the 65 teams.did Va Tech get screwed? any other travesties?

You know what's funny. I've never watched a march madness before, but I've decided to make this my first. I even have thursday off and everything. It's going to be a thing.

It matters to the schools in the sense of accomplishment and money but for me as a fan, it seems rather silly to argue over who is the last one in etc. I don't care about the 30th or so at large bid and I'd hate for it to move to 96. For me Thursday and Friday are the greatest two days of the sports year. I'll watch a little on Sat/Sun but probably not after that. Its those first two days when the little guy can beat the big guy and does that makes the tournament magical for me. In the end though I know they're not going to the finals. But for two days Valpariaso, Bucknell, Richmond and St Mary's Sisters of the Poor top my sports love.

I can't believe that they're talking about expanding to 96. Why not just get it over with, put every D-1 team in the field, and let that be the entire season?

Wait, they're actually talking about a 96-team field? The play-in game, in that it screws over the little guy in the interest of the seventh team in the ACC or the ninth team in the Big East, is bad enough.

I don't get it. Why mess with such a good thing? If the worst part of your tournament is the play-in game, then you're doing pretty fucking good. Expanding to 96 is crazy talk.(Sucks that the Huskies drew Marquette. I was hoping to actually get to the second weekend this time.)

Looking back, it's not actually a bad draw for us. We're still on the West Coast, the MU game looks to be a [url=http://kenpom.com/team.php?team=Washington]toss-up,[/url] and we draw the weakest #3 seed in the tourney. Fingers crossed.

I'm not for expansion, but I"m not getting my panties in a wad over it. I mean, all it does is water down the play-in round.
The teams who would get in aren't doing any damage in it, so I don't get all the hate, other than it's just about more money.

EVerybody talks about the expansion like it would kill the thing.I'm not for expansion, but I"m not getting my panties in a wad over it. I mean, all it does is water down the play-in round.

It's pretty funny that you as fans you're in virtually the exact same spot, and have near-opposite ideas about the expanded field. I mean, Virginia Tech and Illinois were probably the 66th and 67th teams.

(We played Illinois in our only tournament appearance of the decade, and we kicked their ass, meaning we won a closely-contested match and then got our asses handed to us in the round of 32 by some loser school that I can't remember.)

I know some conferences have a long tradition of the tournaments but for most of them it's a money grab and ends up screwing a few legitimate at large teams.

I don't think you have to get rid of the conference tournaments all together, but I would really like to see all the one bid conferences move to a format that allows the higher seed to play at home. This would probably mean cutting all tournaments down to eight teams at most (acus of travel time, assuming you keep it at one week), but...I don't think that's a bad thing at all.
