rating the nicknames

August 05, 2011 at 04:34PM View BBCode

just between customers and now that we're full, was looking around at some of the team nicknames of our new leagues. this is just one guy's opinion, but here's what struck me.

The Best
Montreal Crumbling Infrastructure- you maybe have to be canadian to appreciate this one, but trust me, it's absolutely spot-on perfect. it has the added advantage of being both funny and true.

Minnesota Fighting Saints- one the best names of the old WHA resurrected.

Brooklyn Wonders- historical, classic and metaphorical all at the same time.

Seattle Sentinels- alliterative and regionally representative, this would maybe have been a better name than 'mariners'.

New York Knights- what can i say, i like the movie.

The Worst
Toronto Faceless Corporation- boring, tedious and stupid. just a completely awful name. a horrifically terrible idea that should have died on the drawing board beside new coke, home field advantage to the all-star game winner, and the McRib.

just wait until Ogie Oglethorpe hits the big leagues - then I pass Montreal for sure. I'm going to have to watch slapshot again to fill up my list of renames

and for some reason the McRib is very popular - I personally have a problem with the fake "ribs"

remind me to lend you my kindle. i have both "the making of slapshot" and "rebel league, life and times of the wha" on there. rebel league is a particular blast.

LOL, I had to go look at whose team that was to see who you were bashing. (And I love McRibs - nothing like processed meat with enough cheap sauce to cover up the taste)

My favorite is the LA Lebowskis

Ed Willes, the author of "rebel league", is one of my close friends .

Dennis Leary has expressed interest in making a movie/series based on the book, which would in my opinion be much more entertaining than any movie about "Moneyball", but nothing has come of it to this point.

really? that's stupendously cool. loved the book. also the one on the 87 canada cup. very easy reads, in the best way.

god, that would be hilarious.

too much too soon for what? Ogie? that handle's waiting for a true stud - I'll start with Denis Lemieux or John Garrett (I wonder who has a better 'stache) maybe Bruce Boudreau since he was an extra

You do that, you go to the box, you know. Two minutes by yourself, and you feel shame, you know.

I like both Costco and Toys-R-Us...but ten hours??? There has to be another story in there somewhere.

(What happened to your wife's foot? This isn't another CardinalFarm situation, is it?)

One of my renames was going to be Jesus Quintana, but I guess I will leave it to the Lebowskis

The Unfortunate part of naming my team the Crumbling Infrastructure, is that I really cannot stick the team anywhere else than the Stade Olympique, Big Owe ect

tee hee. i had forgotten about that. no, she tripped on some steps and fell while carrying our 8mo old daughter. she went down pretty hard because she (naturally) chose to cradle our daughter rather than try and break her own fall. our daughter was fine (not even a scratch) but somewhere along the way, jen ended up with a hairline fracture of her foot and a complex sprain.

as to the shopping, it's kind of complicated. those stores are in barrie, which is about 1 hr 15 mins one-way. plus they had to go to orillia first (1 hr 30mins) for her cousin's dress fitting, then on to barrie (20-30mins) before hitting toys r us, futureshop and costco. the dress fitting took a couple of hours, then an hour in toys r us, as i understand it. plus both she and her cousin are stupendous costco shoppers, so that took quite a while. i know they were there at 4pm, because that's where they were when she called me and i know they left about 6:15, because she called to say they were just heading home. all in all, about 3 hours of driving, 2 hours of dress fitting and 1 hour of toys r us, probably most of an hour at futureshop, which leaves roughly 3 hours for costco- i saw wendy's boxes in the car, so i know they didn't stop for lunch. shopping with my wife is tiring.

I don't shop at book stores. I go in, sit down and read.

I do the grcery shopping and you know what pisses me off its when they remodel stores or reconfigure them. I always end spending 1 hour trying to find one thing
